Ms. Darnelle Felix was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised by her biological Mom and Dad until she was eight years old.  After her parents divorced, her mother moved to Florida, and she resided with her mom until she graduated high school.  There was not much stability in the home and by the time she was 14, Ms. Felix expressed how she felt like a “second parent” because her mom depended heavily on her to contribute in every way.  “We didn’t always have what we needed, and my mom was very co-dependent,” she explained.  “This put a strain our relationship.”
